Bologna, a collection of street photos

Recently I was in Italy for a very short trip over the weekend and during that time I spent one day and one night in Bologna., in the Emilia Romagna region, just an hour far (by train) from Milan.

It was not the first time for me, actually, I did the military service in Bologna, just around 20 years ago! Woow, time flies…

Since then, I never came back and, 20 years ago, I was not even close to being a photographer, so I had no pictures taken.

Frankly, I found the city to be exactly the same as twenty years ago, and I still remember where to go and all the main spots.

But this time, I’ve observed it with the eyes and the mind of a photographer, certainly with a different point of view, and with a Leica SL.

Of course, 24 hours, even less, are not enough to really get the soul of a city, but I did my best to capture as much as possible street life.

The city shows its best side at night when the old warm lights illuminate the elegant and endless porticoes, a peculiarity and symbol of this historic city.

Walking around with the Leica SL and the two compact lenses such as Summicron 28mm and 50mm it was so light and relaxing, and the manual focus, in low light was very easy and fast.

Here are the final pictures:

Food photography with a Leica M? Yes we can!

Italy is the heaven for genuine food and whenever I travel to visit my family in my hometown Mola di Bari, Puglia, I’m always tempted to organize a Food photography shooting taking the chance of having fresh fruits and vegetables from my parent’s farm and amazing prepared food from the best chef in the world: my mom! :-p

But I always change my mind as I’m annoyed to carry over big and heavy equipment as for instance, the Canon 5D III, the EF 100mm macro and the EF 24-70mm IS II, for a short and relaxing stay of few days. Recently I’ve paired my DSLR equipment with a Leica M typ 262 and, whenever I travel, that’s my camera to go, other than I want it to become my only equipment for any usage.

I know this will be a challenge, but the more i discover the rangefinder world, the more i love it, and the more i use it.

I was enjoying the time in my sunny Puglia and my father, who knows what I like and what I need, showed me a picture he took whit his iPhone, of a little pomegranate on a nice, old, “ugly” wooden banquet. The overall look and feel of the picture was really interesting for me as for long time I was looking for a wooden background like that, with a natural feel but strongly marked by the time.

But I was there, with “only” my Leica M and a Summicron M 50mm f2 and the Tele-Elmarit M 90mm f2.8 in my bag and I could not take the banquet with me on the way back to Luxembourg… and the good fresh food was there too… the opportunity was too tempting…

why not give the Leica M a try? Even if i could not get close without a macro lens…

So I’ve prepared a very simple set, with the banquet, a light reflector made with a standard aluminium foil and mounted the camera on the tripod right on top of the food.

My top 10 pictures sold in October 2016

October is already behind as well as autumn, my favorite season together with Spring and Christmas is already approaching (time runs sooooo fast!) so it’s time to check which pictures had best sales in the previous month in this top 10 chart (over the following agencies: Shutterstock, iStock, Fotolia, Dreamstime, Depositphotos, Bigstockphoto, Canstockphoto, 123RF, Photodune, Alamy, 500px. )

Overall, October sales have been in line within the last three years, bit less than September, but still very good numbers together with direct requests for assignments or image sales that are not counted in this balance.

But let’s unveil the top 10 sales of October 2016. ( data from Microstockr Pro)

10.

My bestseller ever picture had lower amount of sales on October, but still in the top 10…

Another month, same results, so i copy paste the text from previous month:
“And here is the top seller, since December 2015!!! in the last 10 months this picture is always the one i sell most… Incredibly simple but iconic, this picture taken last year in Trinidad, Cuba, is selling every day and i’m finding it very often in the internet, even used as a cover for an e-book. If you find it somewhere, please let me know. And i well remember the moment i took this picture, it was a very hot afternoon in Trinidad, i was having a relaxed walk and i was attracted by this vibrant yellow wall with a simple door and a cuban flag hanging and waving smoothly. No other disturbing elements around so…clack! The simpler the better…and this is the proof.”

My top 10 pictures sold in September 2016

Another month has passed and it’s time to check which are the top 10 sold images over the following agencies: Shutterstock, iStock, Fotolia, Dreamstime, Depositphotos, Bigstockphoto, Canstockphoto, 123RF, Photodune, Alamy, 500px.

September has been a good month but surprisly the lowest so far (in 2016), even lower than August, but at the same time i’ve received more direct requests for assignments or image sales that are not counted in this balance.
I’ve also produced a lot of new pictures, mostly food but also still life and travel,  around 700, so i expect  to see a sensible increase of sales in the next months.

But let’s unveil the top 10 sales of September 2016. ( data from Microstockr Pro)

10.

This is a photogenic subject that is selling good, a beautiful landscape from Japan. To take this picture i had to climb a very steep and long stair, but it was worth it, now is paying off 🙂

Finally a food picture. I’m investing more and more in this type of subjects, just using a very simple set, natural light from the windows and a reflector and i may say that works very well.
